At church today we were reminded that as saved children of God we're all on mission. Our church banner says "Word, Community, Mission" to remind us that sharing our faith is an integral part of living as Christians in our world.
So here are 4 thoughts about the privilege and responsibility of sharing our faith:
- Evangelism stems from our own walk with God.
Peter of Rheims, a French Dominican friar, said "Anyone who is not burning will not be able to set anyone else on fire." - We're all qualified for evangelism.
We don't need to be eloquent speakers or particularly great at arguing apologetics. What is essential is obedience, a heart for God and a desire to lead others to Jesus so that they too can have the life that he has given us. - The results belong to the Holy Spirit.
Our responsibility is to witness faithfully about Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and leave the results to Him. (2 Cor 4: 4 and Rom 8: 16) - It's not 'us' and 'them'.
We're not exceptional in our own right. We're not better than anyone else. We're simply lost people who have been found. As Jesus lives in us and has transformed our lives, we can give others that chance to know him. Let's not waste it.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Acts 1: 8
