10 more great podcasts

In a previous post, I shared 12 of my favourite podcasts. I know that many of you enjoyed discovering them and so I thought I’d share 10 more podcasts that are enjoyable and informative.

As before, all of these are available free through iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher and other Podcast services.

1. The Bible Project

Topic: Theology

Running time: 40 – 60 mins

From the makers of the excellent Bible Project videos, this podcast comprises dialogue between hosts Tim and Jon on a whole range of biblical topics from justice, literary genres and biblical characters to book explorations and word studies.

2. Seriously

Topic: Mixed-topic documentary

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 30 – 40 mins

A fascinating documentary programme from the BBC covering topics as diverse as surveillance, miniature art, PowerPoint and hair loss.

3. The Inquiry

Topic: Current affairs

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 25 mins

Produced by the World Service, this podcast calls on four expert witnesses each episode to explore the trends, ideas and forces shaping the world.

4. Kingdom Roots 

Topic: Christianity

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 30 – 40 mins

New Testament scholar and theologian Scot Mcknight explores the context of the New Testament teaching and helps to apply that teaching today.

5. Social Science Bites

Topic: Social science

Frequency: Monthly

Running time: 15 – 20 mins

Short interviews with leading social scientists such as Professor Sabina Alkire and anthropologist Scott Atran.

6. Stuff You Should Know

Topic: Culture and science

Frequency: 

Running time: 50 – 60 mins

A lighthearted podcast exploring how things work from psychopaths to The Simpsons. It’s a US podcast so some of the episodes won’t relate as well to British culture, but it’s still really interesting.

7. TED Radio Hour

Topic: Ideas

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 55 – 60 mins

From the TED website “Based on talks given by riveting speakers on the world-renowned TED stage, each show is centred on a common theme – such as the source of happiness, crowd-sourcing innovation, power shifts, or inexplicable connections – and injects soundscapes and conversations that bring these ideas to life.”

8. Voices of the Global Church

Topic: Christianity

Frequency: Variable

Running time: Very variable. Usually about 30 mins.

Host Graham Hill interviews leading Christian thinkers, mainly from the Majority World (Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Oceania, etc.) on matters of faith, discipleship and mission.

9. Tell Me Something I Don’t Know

Topic: Game show

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 60 mins

A humorous and informative games show where members of the public bring their interesting facts to a panel of experts in an attempt to impress them with something they don’t know.

10. The WIRED Podcast

Topic: Science and tech

Frequency: Weekly

Running time: 40 – 50 mins

An entertaining weekly round-up of the latest developments in the worlds of science, technology, business and culture.
