This is the third in my occasional series with some ideas to inspire your prayer life.
- Do a prayer walk treasure hunt. I have created a list of things to spot as you walk around your community and prayer suggestions for each. Download the prayer treasure hunt here.
- A-Z photo challenge. Go around your neighbourhood snapping pictures of the letters A to Z and pray for people, countries and issues beginning with those letters as you go. Print your pictures or keep them on your phone for ongoing prayer.
- Make a list of 100 things to give thanks for. Be as imaginative as you like from the small (the smell of rain) to the big (a secure home to live in).
- Play prayer battleships with a friend. Both of you make a battleships grid and draw symbols to represent prayer requests (in the same way you’d draw your fleet in battleships). When you sink your friend’s ship, pray for that request.
- Have a large map of the world and give everyone stamper pens and get people to mark where they have family and friends. Pray for your contacts.
- Map your prayers to parts of your body. For example, pray that your hands will help you receive God’s love and share it with others, your eyes will be fixed on Jesus and seek out beauty and truth etc.
- This is a group activity focussed on unity. Give everyone strips of coloured paper and get them to write their name on one. Then get everyone to swap pieces of paper and pray for the person named. Finally, make all the strips into a paper chain to decorate the church.
- A good way of symbolising that our sins are truly forgiven is to write them on a piece of paper, confess them to God and determine to turn away from them. Then burn the paper as a reminder that the sin is completely forgiven and is totally gone.
- Look in a mirror and remind yourself of your identity in Christ by speaking biblical truth over yourself. You could even stick some verses on the mirror to remind you.
- Use a magnetic poetry set to write prayers on your fridge. This can be a nice encouragement to yourself or a housemate when you go for your morning cuppa.
