Few: a poem

Few

A few words doesn’t mean a bit of me
It can be all of me in a teardrop.
A heart can be expressed to the
Great Heart
in a sigh, a look, a groan.
He knows
He’s always known.

Many are the words of the showmen
the bloggers, the influencers
the gurus and marketers.
But I have few
and they are yours.

Not to impress
or boast
but to come raw and naked
be known in the flesh
and the ache.

My nothing to your Everything.
Great Heart, you know me.
To be known without words
in the atoms of my being
is ultimately freeing.

Scriptural influences

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Romans 8: 26 – 27

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Matthew 6: 7 – 8

Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5: 2
